Nursing Bottle Caries
Putting your baby to bed with a bottle containing milk, juice, or soft
drinks can produce extensive decay. A pacifier or a bottle
containing water is suggested as a bedtime substitute.
Cleaning Should Start Early
Decay results from residue left in the mouth. You can reduce this
problem by gently cleaning your baby's mouth along the ridges where
teeth will appear. A damp gauze or soft cloth should be used to do this
job. It should be done after every feeding.
Teething
Teething may cause inflammation of the gums, irritability, loss of
appetite and restlessness but not serious symptoms such as high fever
or diarrhea. Eruption of the primary teeth usually begins between 4 and
8 months, and may continue as late as 3 years.

First Dental Visit
We advise that most children should have their teeth and gums
examined by about age 2 or even younger if problems are suspected.
The first visit may be just a "get acquainted" session. This would be a
good time to introduce the child to the dental office and to discuss
proper care of teeth with the parent. By age 3, the child is usually able
to have the teeth professionally cleaned.
Guidance of Behaviour in the Dental Office
Pleasant visits with the Pedodontist help children establish trust and
confidence in the dentist. This is a relationship that children can
maintain throughout their life. We use a variety of techniques to take
their fear out of a child's trip to the dentist. The design and decor of the
office, the use of child psychology, child management and behaviour
modifications are all part of my techniques to guide young and
apprehensive children through their initial dental experiences.
